Answer

Ronald Reagan was a lifeguard but played football in college, George Bush was captain of the Yale baseball team, Gerald Ford was an All-America center for U of M and a Yale boxing coach. I am not aware of any sports played at the varsity level by Obama, Nixon or Roosevelt. Even though Roosevelt was an active and athletic man despite his serious asthma.

Kennedy swam for Harvard. He was decorated in WWII for his actions following the ramming of his PT boat by a Japanese destroyer. With his back permanently injured from the crash, he put a seriously wounded sailor in a life vest, gripped the strap in his teeth and swam the man 3 miles through the ocean to safety on a nearby island. A few days later he again swam several miles through the ocean to contact a Austrailian coast watcher and rescue his crew. The coconut on which he carved his message for help is on display at the Smithsonian.
